I love photographing proposals… There is just something about the excitement of the moment… watching the nervousness of the person proposing. Gearing up for the unexpected reactions of those who are getting proposed to.

I was really excited when I got a phone call from Nathan to photograph his proposal. Not just because of the reasons above but because I met Nathan and his family about 8 years ago when his sister Katie and Carlos got married. (Nathan is Spiderman -just check out the link) . When I photograph weddings I love connecting with the couples families and Katie’s family was so easy to connect with. It was so exciting to see them again and to be there to capture their son’s proposal to Maddie.

Maddie’s proposal was a team family effort that took alot of people keeping their stories straight :) Nathan of course asked Maddie’s Dad for her hand and when doing so said that he wanted to make sure they were there. They schemed up an idea that her family would come down to celebrate Father’s Day with them a few weeks early. Nathan found the winery and told Maddie’s mom about it. She then told Maddie that they found a new winery that they wanted to try out while they were down visiting them. It looked like it had really beautiful views. That’s how they ended up at Eastwood Winery. On the morning of Maddie’s mom sneakily suggested her outfit, and that she should do her hair and make-up. Maddie thought nothing of it. Meanwhile, Nathan was talking with his own family who came down from NJ. The plan was for them to hide and come out after the proposal. Now, my job other then epic photographer of course… was to help build the story. We came up with a plan that I would be a photographer hired to do marketing at the venue. I grabbed the bottle of wine and some glasses and happened to have a small table in my car. I set up a branding style shot for the wine bottles and waited… while I was waiting I listened as Katie and her family in hiding were giggling in the woods… with each giggle someone would shush them which would bring on more giggles. Finally Maddie and Nathan arrived. I pretended to be photographing the wine and when they came up asked them do you mind posing for some promotional shots for the venue, handed them a glass of wine and told them that the winery would provide them with a bottle as a thank you. We started with a group photo and then went down to just Nathan and Maddie. I told Maddie to turn and hand her glasses to her mom to give Nathan enough time to get out the ring and get down on his knee… She was so shocked !

After she said yes… Nathan’s family came running out and the party really began! It was so fun to watch Maddie and Nathan start celebrating their next chapter especially with their families! I had so much fun meeting Maddie’s family and seeing Nathan’s family again!

Congratulations again to you both!!!
