Washington DC War Memorial Elopement - Washington DC Elopement Photography
It’s been awhile since you’ve seen a post around here… In the beginning of the year I decided to step back from weddings and elopements full time mostly because I needed a mental break from social media. I fell into the competitive hole of needing/wanting to get those thumbs up on my photos and I just couldn’t break into the popular culture. So, I decided for my health to take a break… without really taking a break.
I did photograph a few weddings, elopements, and family photoshoots but mostly spent my time second shooting and really honing in on my documentary photography skills. I traveled a little (shocker, I know) took classes in things that I love including beekeeping, improv comedy, and becoming a Maryland Naturalist… and with the assistance of IVF I am pregnant with a little one of my own who is due in 3 short weeks and can’t wait to start this next chapter of my life at 43.
While this year wasn’t as busy as the 17 years prior the couples I did work with were amazing. I absolutely love meeting and getting to know people’s stories, I am one of those people that asks way too many questions because… well yes, I’m nosey but I’m also very inquisitive. The more people I meet the more random things I learn.
One of my elopements this year was at the War Memorial in Washington DC. I’ve photographed tons of elopements in this part of DC but everytime they are so different. Starting with Claire’s fabulous dress. When she showed up I felt like we should be going to a Bridgeton dance ! The morning light was beautiful and after a few quick photos on Constitution Island we met up with Claire’s parents for a quick ceremony at the War Memorial where Claire’s dad filled in as a Maid of Honor.
After the ceremony we popped some sparkling cider and headed to our next locations at the Smithsonian Museum and the Library of Congress. It was the perfect intimate day for Claire & Will and I was so honored to be apart of it!
